Art History Occurred: In the 6th and 5th centuries B. c., however, the mythic, synthetic kind of thinking began to yield to analytical thought, and one of man's major intellectual revolutions was inaugurated. Myths began to be interpreted as history and the acts of gods and heroes were looked on as having occurred once and for all in the past. City-states and noble families began to relate their own activities and lineages to these primeval beings and their deeds. Hence there arose numerous orally transmitted traditions and written chronicles pertaining to part history occurredicular localities; in these the confusion of myth and history was inextricable.
Historically there were earlier concepts that were used as tools in geological thought - for example, neptunism, plutonism, catastrophism and uniformitarianism. Of these, only the last two have survived as useful ideas. They are largely unexplained in origin, but have given rise to interesting speculations.
Despite the formal independence of the board, the history of its relations with the city government has been far from tranquil. Another crisis occurred in 1965, when General Superintendent of Schools Benjamin K. Willis resigned under fire for his alleged discriminatory practices in allowing quality differentials between schools.
