European Picture: European Defense Role. After 1963, as part of the agreement that made Polaris missiles available to Britain, United Kingdom nuclear bombers and Polaris submarines were assigned as part of a NATO nuclear force and targeted in accordance with NATO plans. These forces, however, were available for purely British purposes during any crisis in which it might be decided that supreme national interests were at stake. Whether Britain continues, even to this extent, as an independent nuclear power, may well be decided by its inclusion in or exclusion from the European Economic Community. In other words, Britain's military future is a part of the European picture.
The subject of seasons is a big one and not as simple as it may seem. I'll present it first in official terms, as air lines and steamship lines view it and as the government tourist offices of the European Travel Commission picture it in their copious literature.
The advantages to the buyer are obvious. Does it seem like a bad arrangement for the photographer? At first glance it might seem so, but when this same picture is sold over and over, perhaps fifty times in the course of years, the photographer eventually realizes a handsome total return for his effort in shooting the picture for stock sales.
That's why the stock picture photographer doesn't get rich quick, but enjoys a long-term income advantage for his work. Many a picture has earned, over a period of years, more than $1,000 in fees.
