Fine Art Street: One more thrift note: Students are granted many special reductions, such as 25 per cent on hotel bills and 20 to 40 per cent on rail and ship fares. Very cheap, or even free, accommodations may be had in Athens and elsewhere by students who take matters up with the Athens University Club, 15 Hippocrates Street; or the Polytechnicum School, October 28th Street; or Scholl's Secretariat, for the Athens High School of fine art street Arts in its Rhodes, Mykonos, Delphi and Hydra branches.
Good Restaurants, with Atmosphere Athens' fine art streetst restaurants, of conventional type, and they are a bit on the expensive side, even in dollars, would perhaps be headed by the new Floca and the Zonar, both on Venizelos Avenue, near the Grande Bretagne, followed by Costi's, on Kora'i Street, Dalli's on Jan Smuts Street, Averof, on Churchill Street, and Cellar's, on Kriezotou Street. The Pantheon, a place of rather more popular character, is on Venizelos Avenue. This last is a bright and cheerful establishment with a gay orchestra, and patrons wishing to linger for an hour or two on a mere order of pastry and coffee are not made to feel uncomfortable.
From it leads the "Main Street," called Istiklal Caddesi, which means Independence Avenue, a thoroughfare of Western shops, and of cinemas-mostly talking American! At the foot of this street is THE TUNNEL, a short sul way that ties Galata Bridge (almost) to the upper town of Beyoglu. B use of The Tunnel and of "Main Street's" incessantly running trams am busses to and from Taksim, you can save yourself a lot of taxi fares.
