Fine Art Textiles The standard Textiles such as taffeta, satin, velvet, and brocade are often produced with rayon yarns and nylon has been used for nets and satins. It is however, in the so-called novelty weaves that the synthetic fibers have been used in the most interesting manner. In these weaves, the accent has been placed upon texture rather than pattern, perhaps due to the realization that Textiles can be of interest to the touch as well as to the sight.

In the weaving of decorative Textiles there are natural fibers and several synthetic types. Textiles may be woven by using one fiber only or by mixing two or more. In combining fibers, the mixture may be in the twisted yarn itself, or it may be in the weaving by interlacing yarns of different fibers. The important fibers are as follows:
