The Olympia, of 23,000 tons, is the lew flagship, joining the older Neptunia in service from New York to Cobh, Cherbourg, Southampton and Bremerhaven. The Columbia and Canberra sail rom Canadian ports to the same destinations. The Nea Hellas sails to Piraeus, x>rt of Athens, with an eastbound halt at Naples (sometimes also at the Azores md Lisbon) and westbound halts at Malta and Naples. It is very heartening to ;ee Greece, which had such a very narrow escape from absorption by the Soviet :ponge a few years ago, now in full partnership with the West, her ships in open :ompetition with the transport lines of the West.
The expensively rebuilt motor ship Britannic (27,000 tons) and the smaller but good Media and Parthia (about 14,000 tons) ply to Cobh and Liverpool. Cunard also operates several ships, Franconia, Scythia, etc., from Montreal and Quebec. Cunard's high standards of service are traditional, for its staffs have been learning how to serve since 1840, when the side-wheeler Britannia made Atlantic history.
He was graduated at Hamilton College in 1864, and at the New York University Law School in 1867. In the latter year he was admitted to the bar and entered upon the practice of his profession in New York. In 1883 he was appointed United States District Attorney for the southern district of New York; in 1894 was a delegate-at-large to the New York State Constitutional Convention, and was chairman of the judiciary committee.
