Historical Picture:

Historical Picture Picasso's "Guernica" (p. 68-9) depicts a historical picture event in a manner still permitted by the age of artistic autonomy: instead of giving an eye-witness account, the painter renders his own personal horror. The picture is not so much about a historical picture fact, but rather its effect on Picasso's innermost being.

historical picture Societies.-The Virginia historical picture Society (Richmond), established in 1831, publishes the Virginia Magazine of History and Biography and historical picture monographs and manuscripts. The Virginia State Library (Richmond), which acts as the state archives, publishes state documents, a number of historical picture guides, and the quarterly Virginia Cavalcade. The Institute of Early American History and Culture (Wil-liamsburg) publishes the William and Mary Quarterly and books about early America. County historical picture societies, patriotic organizations, and ancestral organizations publish historical picture records and preserve historic shrines.

Picasso understood it as a fascist experiment to prepare the end of the world and mercilessly brought it down to the level of his own experience. The value and authenticity of the picture is achieved not by means of historical picture accuracy or a simple re-telling of what happened, but through the unceasing timelessness of suffering.
