Metropolitan Museum Of: Many museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and such institutions as the United Nations (through UNICEF) have entered the greeting card field. They usually offer highly specialized greetings, such as Christmas cards reproducing paintings from museum collections or, in the case of the UNICEF collection, a tableau of international Yuletide customs.
Portraits. In their range, splendor, and variety, as well as in their sympathy to the sitter, Goya's portraits are perhaps the most important part of his painted work. In such early examples as the likenesses of Don Sebastian Martinez and of Don Bernardo de Iriarte (both in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York), the elegance of pose and the richness of costume proclaim them truly of the 18th century portrait tradition. On the other hand, Goya's friend, the architect Don Tibnrcio Perez (Metropolitan Museum, New York), is presented in 1820 without a coat and in a pose of such casual veracity that the picture heralds in a startling way most of the developments of 19th century portraiture.
