Modern Art Lites: As such they closely resemble a basic element of proteins that is utilized within a cell as part of its reproductive process. When these antimetabolites are introduced, they disturb the DNA-RNA sequence just enough to sabotage the synthesis of antibody proteins. When this is accomplished, antibodies are not formed and the trans-j plant can survive. Unfortunately, antimetabolites may be toxic. They may unavoidably suppress action of blood-forming or-| gans; when this happens severe infection may supervene.
Scientists had several reasons for believing that programs like GARP could now be successful: (1) meteorologists had a fairly complete set of mathematical theories to describe the motions of the atmosphere and its general circulation; (2) the computers currently available could begin to handle these theories and could digest tremendous quantities of observations of the atmosphere; and (3) meteorological satellites and constant-level floating balloons were showing the way to a truly global observing system.
