Modern Art Provinces: modern art provinces Period.-The republics of the modern art provinces period arose as national rather than municipal states and governments. Like their medieval precursors, they too established themselves in a long struggle against secular and religious absolutism. modern art provinces republicanism dates from the struggles of the Netherland provinces against Spanish rule. The wars of liberation began in 1568, but the independence of the Netherlands was recognized by the great powers only in 1648 at the Peace of Westphalia.
Trajan built many public works, encouraged learning, and endeavored to alleviate the financial difficulties into which many cities and provinces had fallen. He completed the fortifications along the Rhine and enlarged the Roman Empire to its greatest extent (see Fig. 3), annexing five new provinces. Arabia Petraea was acquired in 106; Dacia, after : two successful campaigns (101-102; 105-106), in 107 fit was divided into two provinces by Hadrian).
Other groups who speak non-Chinese Sino-Tibetan languages are the Miao of southeastern Kweichow and western Hunan provinces, and the Yao of Kwangsi, Hunan, Kwangtung, and Yiinnan provinces. They live in the mountainous regions of these provinces, as well as in Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand. In China these groups number some 4 million people, who are in most ways culturally different from the Han-Chinese.
