The "success" of a railroad system, under modern art rates conditions, cannot always be measured in terms of a net operating profit or the absence of it. This is because rail systems have come increasingly to be viewed as instruments of national economic policy, and their services are often deliberately provided on a below-cost basis. The railways of Mexico, for example, haul minerals and other raw materials at rates that range from 35% to 50% below the cost of the service. Underdeveloped countries often establish artificially high rates for imports and artifically low rates for exports. Similarly, passengers are often hauled at below-cost fares as a social service.
Some of them will ask you what rates you charge. As a beginner, your best reply is: "I'm willing to accept your regular rates." These rates probably will turn out to be more than you'd dare to ask, anyway.
Unless you are a Camera genius who does all things superlatively well, and unless you have studio facilities for building elaborate sets and Lighting them adequately, you would do well to present yourself as a specialist. That's why your sample portfolio should include pictures only of the type which you do the best.
