Modern Art Read: On the other hand, the popular modern art read expression "lost books of the Bible" is completely misleading. None of these books was ever a part of the New Testament, though some were read for edification in church services here and there, and many were read for edification in private. To call them "disputed" or "extracanonical" books is question begging. One has only to read them to discover how widely they differ from the New Testament Gospels and upon how much lower a level of literary ability, to say nothing of theology or piety, their authors worked than did the New Testament evangelists.
The reader, according to some, is not a person merely with a theoretical ability to read but one that actually engages in reading. Many adults in the United States, although they have the ability to read, have never read a book in its entirety. By some experts they would not be classified as readers.
Developing Readiness. Research conducted in the Head Start Program and other preschool programs has demonstrated that the most important factor in a child's readiness to read is his home environment. Parents can help in many ways to develop their child's readiness to read. By reading aloud to him, they can help him to develop an awareness of sounds, intonation, and language patterns, as well as a positive attitude toward reading. Children will often memorize and recite nursery rhymes and short verses read to them.
