Museum Collection: The cultural sights of the city are featured by the Swiss National Museum, with an extremely rich collection of medieval paintings; and the recently acquired Rietberg Museum. This contains the private art treasures of Baron von der Heydt, who has given the entire collection to the city. There is nothing to compare with it elsewhere in Europe in the richness of its early Chinese stone and bronze sculptures, dating from the 5th century on (the T'ang era), and its other works, among which no banal items whatever have gained inclusion, are from many countries, chiefly Oriental, Indian and African. Only the Benaki Museum in Athens has seemed to me somewhat comparable, in its contents, to this one of Zurich.
Cityscapes Revealed : Highlights from the Collection
The National Building Museum presents a first-time survey of its holdings in the long-term exhibition Cityscapes Revealed: Highlights from the Collection.
Cityscapes Revealed explores America's architectural heritage through original building fragments; rare, early-20th-century photographs; intricate architectural drawings; and more.
The exhibition reflects the Museum's rich permanent collection relating to quintessentially American, 20th-century- building typologies, from Beaux-Arts-style residences to main street storefronts and sleek downtown skyscrapers.
The exhibition, presented in honor of the Museum's 25th anniversary, is on view in first-floor galleries.
Many museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and such institutions as the United Nations (through UNICEF) have entered the greeting card field. They usually offer highly specialized greetings, such as Christmas cards reproducing paintings from museum collections or, in the case of the UNICEF collection, a tableau of international Yuletide customs.
