Original Picture: His adaptation of "Las Meninas" (p. 84) of 17 August 1957 was one in a series of 44 variations on the same picture, all of which had taken shape as a result of a careful analysis of individual figures and the painting as a whole. It had been over half a century before, that Pablo had admired Velazquez's original picture of 1656 in the Prado. Picasso may have been inspired by the Spanish tradition of this picture, its worldwide fame, and the theme "painter and studio".
The starting-point we have chosen is reading; but in doing so we want it to be seen only as an initial focus and not as the whole picture. Our concept of parental involvement in education is well expressed by the original picture acronym PACT and we shall use this ; throughout the book to avoid the continual repetition of more cumbersome phrases.
The advantages to the buyer are obvious. Does it seem like a bad arrangement for the photographer? At first glance it might seem so, but when this same picture is sold over and over, perhaps fifty times in the course of years, the photographer eventually realizes a handsome total return for his effort in shooting the picture for stock sales.
That's why the stock picture photographer doesn't get rich quick, but enjoys a long-term income advantage for his work. Many a picture has earned, over a period of years, more than $1,000 in fees.
