FRUIN, Robert, Dutch historian: b. Rotterdam, Nov. 14, 1823; d. Leyden, Jan. 22, 1899. He received his education at Leyden and after 1860 was professor of the history of the Netherlands there. He was the greatest authority on Dutch history in his time. He published Tien jar en uit den tachtigjarigen oorlog (4th ed., (1889) ; Geschiedenis der staatsinstclhngen in Nederland tot den val der republick (1901).
