These History -making: Because of these history -making characteristics of German thought-and because philosophical thinking in Germany conformed very little to the course of Western traditions, but instead tended to break loose from these history -making traditions or even to oppose them vehemently-it is impossible to follow the history of German philosophy except by making it a history of the individual German philosophers' systems, that is, by describing the various philosophical thought structures and world philosophies of the great German thinkers.
Chinese pottery and porcelain. The history of pottery and porcelain making in China is as old and wondro as the history of China itself. From 1100 B.C. through the 18th century, this art showed a slow but consistent development, reflecting the spiritual and religious changes of China and her rulers. Since the 18th century, though fine porcelain is still being made, the art has deteriorated, through a lack of originality, into a rather mechanical imitation of past excellence.
He remained there as a lecturer until 1921, then devoted all his time to writing. Robinson was a pioneer of the "new history," which holds that historical writing and teaching should deal with social, scientific, intellectual, and artistic developments as well as political events. Among his books were Introduction to the History of Western Europe (1903), The Development of Modern Europe (with C.A. Beard, 2 vols., 1907), The New History (1911), The Mind in the Making (1921), and The Ordeal of Civilisation (1926).
